Homeschool Wednesday and a Reading/Writing/Comprehension Workbook Recommendation!

I thought it’d be fun to continue posting a homeschool/education recommendation here on Facebook each week to coincide with Homeschool Wednesday.

This week, my recommendation is a reading/writing/comprehension workbook series which I’ve discovered here at Brain Spice recently.

It’s not often I get excited about workbooks. They’re great, and they have their place, but “exciting” isn’t normally how I’d describe them.

HOWEVER… this is a series that I was pleasantly surprised by - and I would definitely recommend!

The name of the series is Reading For Me. It’s a fantastic and affordable open-and-go workbook for homeschoolers, or for parents wanting to help their kids with their reading/writing/comprehension skills.

Here are some things I love about these workbooks:

✅ No preparation is needed

✅ The texts are interesting

✅ They can be used either independently or with a parent’s help

✅ They are extremely affordable at under $18 per book

Each book contains 60 texts, including imaginative, factual, and persuasive texts.
Each text then has an accompanying worksheet with six questions for children to complete, allowing for writing/comprehension practice, and also allowing for parents/teachers to check that children actually read and comprehend the texts.

The questions are based on literal, inferential, evaluative, and vocabulary understandings of each text.

This series is beautifully different from others I’ve tried. The topics are truly interesting, engaging, and could be used to encourage further discussion at a later time if you are wanting to explore the subject more thoroughly. (This is perfect for homeschoolers!)
There are six levels to choose from. And along with the questions becoming more in depth with each level, the text topics in each level also increase in depth and complexity, allowing the book to remain interesting and relevant to the age of the student.

The texts include topics such as:

▪️ Should Schools Have a School Uniform?

▪️ Jack and the Beanstalk

▪️ Dear Diary

▪️ How to Make Your Own Slime

▪️ The Magic of the Theatre

▪️ Escape From the House of Riddles

▪️ Fact or Fiction - Debunking History’s Greatest Myths

▪️ Artificial Intelligence - Will Computers Rule Over Humans One Day?

▪️ The Life of Nikola Tesla

▪️ …and hundreds more

The workbooks are easy for children to use independently, allowing them to take control of their reading journey, or they can also be used with a parent’s assistance.

And as an added bonus, a dyslexia-friendly font is used throughout the workbooks.

Answers are provided for teachers/parents to check progress, or for children to self-mark.

🟦 Reading For Me is $17.95 per workbook, and is available to purchase both in store and online from Brain Spice.
